The Mountain Top Welcome Club Newsletter
March 2010

PRESIDENT'S REPORT - Elaine Bernstein (474-5984/814-0286 or elaine.bernstein@earthlink.net)

"Welcome" to the April edition of our newsletter. I have lots to discuss.

First of all, I am so proud of our wonderful Night at the Races fundraising event on the rescheduled date of Friday, March 26th. What a fun way to raise money for the community!

It was so great to see so many of our members there. I was especially encouraged to see so many husbands – and without the "pained look" that many of them would have at the auction when they had to look at yet another Vera Bradley bag. I know my own husband was much happier serving as the "Assistant Bartender" this year, than he was last year when I had him updating the auction spreadsheets all night. Special thanks to all of the families who very generously pitched in at the end of the event to break down the tables and chairs – making our clean up quick and painless.

Kudos to our wonderful Ways and Means Committee Chairs, Mary Ellen McFarland and Pam McGovern, who organized the event beautifully. Thanks to our members who helped out in so many ways –big and small. In particular, members Marie Duclos and Lisa East deserve special mention for going above-and-beyond in taking care of so many of the details that were an integral part of the night.

We also have lots of thanks to send out to our very generous sponsors and donors from outside the group, but I will leave that to Pam and Mary Ellen for our next newsletter, along with our fundraising totals. The final numbers are not in yet, but we are very hopeful that we will reach or exceed our goal.

Congratulations to all who were part of what I suspect may be a new annual event for the Welcome Club!

I also wanted to take an opportunity to say goodbye to Mary Thomas, who leaves Mountain Top this month for Germany. Mary is someone who just embodies everything that Welcome Club is and wants to be, and we will miss her.

My best memory of Mary is from the Membership Picnic in 2007. I was a little nervous that day, because I was still very new to the club and didn't know anyone else who was planning to go.I remember very tentatively walking in to the room, wondering if anyone would even notice that I was there. All of a sudden Mary came up to me with the biggest welcoming smile and offered to hold Anna while I got settled in. That kindness meant the world to me at the time. I'm not sure Mary even remembers it, but I certainly do.

Mary – thank you for everything you have done for us, and especially, teaching me about making people feel truly "welcome." I think of your kindness often, and hope that I can continue to pay-it-forward. Best of luck to you and your family in your new home. We will miss you!

Happy Easter! Happy Passover! Happy Spring!

2nd VICE PRESIDENT Membership Kim Carpenter (474-9020 or kimwc@yahoo.com)

Spring is a good time to reach out to your friends and neighbors...bring them to the next meeting and they will get a welcome gift! You'll get a gift as well! The member who brings the most guests will also get a special gift!

Here's another incentive to reach out to your neighbors: over the next month, just stop by and visit someone new that moved into your neighborhood, take them a copy of the current newsletter, and let me know about it. Your name will be put into a drawing to receive two movie tickets WITH BABYSITTING PROVIDED! If the winner doesn't need babysitting, they will receive four movie tickets!
