February 2010
Happy Valentine's Day! Love is in the air. . . and so is the Welcome Club charity fundraising season. I am so excited about our fabulous new event, A Night at the Races, which is coming up on February 26th. It will be a nice change of pace, and a wonderful chance to have an affordable night out with your friends and neighbors. (It is a lot more "husband-friendly" than our previous events, too – so we hope a lot of them will be joining us there, as well.) We really need everyone's participation to make this event a success. Even if you cannot attend, please buy a horse or two - or 17 – just kidding, even though that would be great. ;) Horses are just $10 each, and you do not have to be present to win - $50 for the race winner!!!!! WooooHoooo!!! Admission to the event is included with your horse purchase, or tickets are $5 at the door. Please contact Mary Ellen McFarland or Pam McGovern (contact information below) for more information. Speaking of charities, I am proud to announce the charities selected to receive our proceeds this year. These groups/projects were selected in an overwhelming majority by the vote of our members: The Marian Sutherland Kirby Library, Wright Township Park, and local beautification projects. Additionally, as we come into the home stretch of our club year, it is time to think about Board Members for 2010-2011. I would like to set up a Nominating Committee for this important task. I would also like to encourage everyone to consider taking a Board or Special Interest Group position next year. Although there is some effort involved, it is a wonderful way to expand your horizons to a whole new group of friends. Thanks. Sending "sweet" wishes
your way, Elaine
Thank you to all members who attended our January
meeting! Our February meeting will be held Thursday 2/18 at noon. Bill
McFarland will be our speaker. Please RSVP to me by 2/15! I am looking
forward to seeing all of you on 2/18!
WANTED: New Members! Please reach out to your friends and neighbors...bring them to the next meeting and they will get a welcome gift! You'll get a gift as well...for each guest you bring! The member who brings the most guests will also get a special gift! Here's another incentive to reach out to your neighbors: over the next three months, just stop by and visit someone new that moved into your neighborhood, take them a copy of the current newsletter, and let me know about it. Your name will be put into a drawing to receive two movie tickets WITH BABYSITTING PROVIDED! If the winner doesn't need babysitting, they will receive four movie tickets!
I would like to thank Bobbi-Jo Romanishan for bringing
the candle door prizes. I would also like to thank Jo Taylor, Cypress
La Salle and Mary-Ellen McFarland for bringing the desserts.
Webmaster Note: beginning info left out for privacy purposes. And finally, I would like to make a huge apology to Mary Ellen McFarland for listing her name as Barbara McFarland under the Welcome Club Officers-Ways and Means section of the Directory. I really don't remember what I may have been imbibing that evening, but I am truly sorry for making that error! Again, there may still be a few typos/errors that made it through, and I will definitely try to make those corrections as they come along!
SAVE THE DATE: Friday, February 26, 2010 – Night at the Races – Wright Township Fire Hall. Please sell horses to your
friends, neighbors, and co-workers.A form
is attached to the newsletter. Wine/liquor basket donations
will also be accepted at the next meeting.
Please contact me if you have any club expenses.
Easter Baskets - Once again the Welcome Club will provide Easter Baskets for children at the Mountain Top Food Bank. Please bring your items to the meetings in February and March. We will put the baskets together using the various items. Candy is great, but also consider small toys, crayons, books, etc. We don't need baskets. We have several remaining from last year. Thank you! Thanks to Lori Urosevich, Heather Cole, Lisa East and Liz Barley and Donna Albertine for providing snacks/dessert for the fire departments in December and January!
With the holidays behind
us it's time to load our pictures onto the computer and send me some!
I still need pictures from the picnic, the clean up, and the holiday
parties. Those of you in the special interest groups, please snap a
photo or two at your next meeting. Also if you have a special event
or project you want in the newspaper just send me a photo and the names
of all those in it and I will send it to our local papers. As always,
I also welcome hard copies. If you bring them to the meeting, I can
scan them and return them to you. Thanks!!!
If you know anyone that was expecting a newsletter and did not receive one, please let me know and I will be sure to correct my email list. Thanks!
Please contact Mary if anyone needs this service, which provides meals to members experiencing an illness, birth or death in the family.
