PRESIDENT'S REPORT - Karin Caporuscio (474-1199 kacap66@yahoo.com)
It is Auction time! By this time, I am sure you have been contacted by a board member requesting a donation. Please consider donating an item of any kind. If you need a suggestion, please contact Tricia Russell or Shannon Williams. Again, all money we raise at the auction will benefit the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library, Wright Township Park Expansion, and the Mountain Youth Soccer Program. Don't forget to mark your calendars Thursday, April 24th at the Stage Coach Inn, doors open at 6:00PM. I look forward to seeing you there!

Corinne Rossi and Beth LaMarca have been busy finding volunteers for all of the board positions for next year. If you are interested in serving on the board, please contact them as soon as possible.

Finally, all of the special interest group leaders should be finding their replacements for next year if one is needed. If you are having trouble, please feel free to contact me.

Next board meeting: Thursday, April 3rd at the home of Kim Carpenter.

1st VICE PRESIDENT - Lisa Charton (868-0180, charton@epix.net)
Hope everybody enjoyed Paul Nikom's defense demonstrations-I'm glad there was so much participation; let's hope none of us will ever have to use anything that we learned but we are all stronger for having the knowledge. This month's meeting we will have Randy Swank from Prudential Securities speaking. Randy is a financial planner and will be addressing IRAs, 529 accounts and any other questions you might have. So, bring some of your best questions because how often do we get free financial advice!

This month the meeting will be a little different so please take note of the location. Even though the location is different the food will remain the same great lunches we always have. This month our homemade lunch of American/Italian fare will be provided by Morris' Family Restaurant.

DETAILS:
GENERAL MEETING: Thursday, April 17, 2008
TIME: 12:00 pm
WHERE: Morris' Family Restaurant, Mountaintop
LUNCHEON COST: $6.00 per person
BABYSITTING: space is limited, the children will be in the back corner of the room watching a movie so if you can find alternate child care that would be appreciated, if not, please feel free to bring them with you.
RSVP: By April 10, 2008 using the reservation form at the back of the newsletter or by email to me at
charton@epix.net

2nd VICE PRESIDENT - Membership - Kim Carpenter (474-9020 or kimwc@yahoo.com)
When I moved to Mountain Top, I was so grateful to quickly meet a couple of the members of the Welcome Club. They invited me to a playgroup and then a general meeting, and within two weeks of moving here, I had been to three Welcome Club events! I felt very welcome to the area and almost immediately felt surrounded by friends. It made my move to the area so much easier. Let's make sure we are providing our new neighbors the same opportunity. If you have a new neighbor or if there is someone you think would benefit from the Welcome Club, please let them know about our wonderful club. You can also give me their name and contact information and I'll send them a letter of welcome and a current newsletter. In either case, you may be the person who makes a difference in their life, just like Liz Shipton and Kathleen Ferguson made in mine!

To make our guests feel extra welcome, at the next meeting, we will once again have a gift for each new guest and also a gift for the person who brings the most guests! (Congratulations to Mary Thomas who won in January and Debra Bolus Grosek, a new member herself, who won in February!) So think about the person who may need a friend and we'll see both at the next meeting!

WAYS & MEANS -Tricia Russell (403-7785, tricia.russell@wilkes.edu -please note new email address) and Shannon Williams (474-5570, shannon.williams@flsmidth.com)

WHAT?: Mountain Top Welcome Club Annual Charity Auction

WHERE?: Crystal Ballroom at the Stage Coach Inn, Route 309

WHEN?: Thursday, April 24 Silent auction opens at 6 pm, bidding at 7 PM

WHO?: Anyone (members and non-members) can come and enjoy the fun!!

WHY?: All proceeds will benefit our three charities selected by the Welcome Club members at the beginning of the year Marian Sutherland Kirby Library, Mountain Top Youth Soccer Association, and the Wright Township Park Expansion Project.

HOW?: Business and member (like you!) contributions

We especially want to increase our membership support and attendance at this year's auction. The auction was a great success last year and we have high hopes again this year. We are excited that we have already received some donations and have heard some great ideas with enthusiasm from some members. Great news!! We will be keeping track of member donations and providing you with regular updates on our success as we go forward via email.

Remember donations can be almost anything- homemade crafts, bought items, baked goods, services, theme baskets, or monetary contributions. Donations don't have to be individual-you can consider teaming up with a friend as well. Any board member would be happy to help you with ideas if needed. So just ask. Items can be dropped off as soon as they are ready at Tricia Russell's home 477 Strawberry Lane or given to Shannon Williams, or any board member. We can also pick up items if needed. Try to drop items off at least a week or two in advance, unless of course they are food items.

Also, if you or someone you know, work for or own a business that would be willing to contribute, a donation would be greatly appreciated. All businesses who donate are recognized, both at the Auction, and in the newsletter so it is great advertisement! If anyone has any questions about the auction, please contact one of us.

Thank you in advance for your support, and we hope to see you at the Auction!!

If you have any expenses, please let me know and I'll be happy to reimburse you.

SERVICES - Beth LaMarca (474-6320, bethdoug@ptd.net) and Mary Thomas (868-7737, vandert5@pa.metrocast.net)

For our April meeting, we will be collecting items to donate to the Volunteers of America (http://www.voapa.org) in Wilkes Barre. They are requesting only "baby items" such as: diapers, wipes, formula (Similac with Iron), and jarred baby food. At this time, they have an abundance of clothing, so that is not needed, just the consumable items. If you cannot bring them to the general meeting, please feel free to contact us and we will pick up from your home.
Thank you to the loyal bakers that have been keeping our Fire Departments happy and showing our appreciation for their services! This month's volunteers included: Kami Peterson, Shannon Williams, and Corinne Rossi. Thanks Ladies! Believe it or not, as this newsletter is being written, there are STILL a few spots left to fill - please donate some time and baked goods to show our thanks for our local fire departments and call Beth or Mary for a date.
Have you seen the signs of spring appearing in the area? Well, we have, and in order to enjoy nature's beauty, we want to clean up our area of Route 309! Yes, we are talking about our Adopt- A-Highway Spring Clean-Up! To tie into "Earth Day" this year, we have scheduled it for Monday, April 21st, at 9:30am. Babysitting will be provided, details to follow. (If you are willing to babysit, please let us know!) We would be grateful for anyone who could volunteer for a couple of hours to clean a two-mile stretch of Route 309. The more people we get the faster it goes... For example, in the fall, we had about 6 volunteers and it only took 2 hours - just imagine if we doubled or tripled our help! Please sign up by calling Beth or Mary or you can sign up at the March general meeting. We hope to see you there. Thanks!
