February 2008
PRESIDENT'S REPORT - Karin Caporuscio (474-1199
kacap66@yahoo.com)
Thank you to all who helped make this
holiday season a joyous one for so many people throughout our
community. Once again, our Angel Tree Drive and the donations
to White Haven Center were a huge success. A special thank you
to Irene Ziegler for opening her home to us for our holiday exchange,
as well as to Carole MacDonald and Valerie Way for another great
children's party! Finally, thank you to those who volunteered
for gift-wrapping at Barnes and Nobles!
It is now time for us to start preparing for our annual auction.
Board members will be busy over the next few months calling businesses
and members asking for donations. We ask that you please consider
a donation to help make this another successful year! All money
raised will benefit the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library, the
Wright Township Park Expansion, and the Mountain Top Youth Soccer
Program.
We are in the process of nominating people for next year's board
and special interest groups. If you are interested in being on
the board next year, please contact Corinne Rossi (474-2181)
or Beth LaMarca (474-6320). If you are interested in leading
a special interest group, please contact the person currently
in charge of that group.
The next board meeting will be at the home of Lael Swank on Thursday,
February 7th at 7:30. Please let me know if there is anything
you would like the board to discuss.

1st VICE PRESIDENT - Lisa Charton (868-0180,
charton@epix.net)
Glad to see so many members at our last meeting. I hope
everyone got some useful information from Debbie to help with
our insurance needs and other parts of our lives that we don't
like to think about but know that we should. This month's speaker
will be Joe O'Hara, owner of O'Hara Orchard on Blue Ridge Trail.
He will be gearing us up to begin thinking of spring planting
and what grows best in our area, so bring some questions for
him concerning your soil drainage, space capacity, and other
landscaping ideas so that he can give us all suggestions as to
what will work best to make our yards look Home and Garden quality.
Lunch will be provided by the under new management, formally
the first management, MM Gyro Restaurant. We will be enjoying
authentic Greek fare.

2nd VICE PRESIDENT - Membership - Kim Carpenter
(474-9020 or kimwc@yahoo.com)
Probably the best way to increase
our Welcome Club membership is by telling people personally about
our club! There are so many opportunities to tell others about
the Welcome Clubthe stay-at-home mom you meet at the park, the
fellow day-care mom you see every morning, the new friend at
the gym, the new neighbor, etc. So many people are looking for
friends for themselves and their children and are looking for
things to do, especially over these cold and damp months. Please
use these opportunities to tell people about the Welcome Club.
Invite them to our next meeting or event, and definitely tell
them about the up-coming auction. You could be providing someone
with what they really need to feel a part of the Mountain Top
community! Also, if you'd like to send me the name and address
of a new neighbor or someone you think might be interested in
the club, I'd be glad to send them a letter of introduction and
the current newsletter.
As an incentive, at the next meeting, we will have a gift for
each new guest and also a gift for the person who brings the
most guests! So get your competitive minds thinking about whom
in your life would benefit from being introduced to the Welcome
Club! We'll see you at the next meeting!

or if it changes. Lorraine and Corinne

WAYS & MEANS -Tricia Russell (403-7785,
tricia.russell@wilkes.edu --please
note new email address) and Shannon Williams (474-5570,
shannon.williams@flsmidth.com)
Happy New Year Everyone! We wanted
to thank the following individuals for providing their time and
assisting the Welcome Club Barnes & Noble Holiday Gift Wrap
Fundraiser that occurred twice in December:
Marie Duclos, Joan Revis, Corinne Rossi, Mae Schuler and Renee
Sessions. We were able to raise around $60.00. It was not
as much as in previous years, but it is still a start to helping
our three chosen charities.
AUCTION, AUCTION, AUCTION!!!! We are happy to announce
that the annual Charity Auction will again be held in the Crystal
Ballroom at the Stage Coach Inn. Please save the date!
It will be on Thursday, April 24th at 6 pm (assuming
no significant conflicts arise). All proceeds will benefit our
three charities selected by the Welcome Club members at the beginning
of the year - the Kirby Library, the Mountain Top Youth Soccer
Association, and the Wright Township Park Expansion Project.
The board is beginning to contact local businesses and members
of the Club for donations. So, expect to hear from one of us
soon! We especially want to increase our membership support
and attendance at this year's auction. The auction was
a great success last year and we have high hopes again this year.
Donations can be almost anything- homemade crafts, bought items,
baked goods, services, theme baskets, or monetary contributions.
Donations don't have to be individual-you can consider teaming
up with a friend as well. Board members can help with ideas when
you are contacted. Also, if you or someone you know, work for
or own a business that would be willing to contribute, a donation
would be greatly appreciated. All businesses who donate are recognized,
both at the Auction, and in the newsletter - so it is great advertisement!
If anyone has any questions about the auction, please contact
one of us.

SERVICES - Beth LaMarca (474-6320, bethdoug@ptd.net) and Mary Thomas (868-7737,
vandert5@pa.metrocast.net)
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! The Services Committee starts the year off with lots
of thanks to all members that have been so generous with their
time and donations: Thank you to the nice group of carolers that
gave some time to sing at Davis Manor... it was nice to see some
new faces and I think the residents really appreciated our music.
For those of you who may not have heard, they even requested
an encore performance in the dining room! Way to Go Welcome
Club Carolers! Also, a huge thank you to all of you who bought
Christmas presents for the children in the "Angel Tree"
program. We were able to sponsor approximately 20 children, and
made the smiles a little bigger on Christmas morning. Finally
- Thanks to those who donated items for the White Haven Center
- they have 300 residents and were so excited that Welcome Club
helped out this year. Apparently, we were one of their biggest
givers, too!
Fire Department Appreciation Bakers: Once again, thanks
to the members that provided baked goods for the monthly meetings
of three main fire companies in Mountain Top. Volunteers for
December and January included: Tricia Russell, Kim Kovalchik,
Judy Grimm, Kim Carpenter, Lisa Davidson, Elisa Colo, and Rose
Termini. Thanks Ladies! For those of you who haven't signed up
yet - please contact Mary or Beth - there are a few spots left
for Spring.
Are you ready for Easter??? Yes, we know, feels like Christmas
is just over, and there is still snow in the forecast, but Easter
comes early (VERY early) this year... and you know what that
means - EASTER BASKETS! We will be collecting items at
the February meeting to put into baskets for children aged 12
and younger. We are very fortunate that the Girl Scouts have
offered to assemble the baskets again, and they will be doing
so on March 5th, therefore, we will need the items early. However,
if you forget to bring them to the meeting, or you cannot attend,
just get them to Beth or Mary (or we can pick them up) by the
end of February... Thanks!
