PRESIDENT'S REPORT Shannon Williams (474-5570 richshan1@verizon.net)

I hope you have all been enjoying the various club events taking place this fall! We are in the process of selecting our charities to support with fundraising for the 2008-2009 year. I have received votes from about 50 members but hope to receive more by
October 31st. I will tally the votes at that time. The votes are very close, so your vote will make a difference! A copy of the form is included at the end of the newsletter. You can either email the form to me or just type your choices in an email to me.

Please pay your annual membership dues! Don't delay so that we can make sure that you are included in the directory.

I am happy to report that Beth LaMarca has volunteered to host the Holiday Gift Exchange this year. This is a really fun night out! The gift value will remain the same at $20.00. The exchange will take place on Tuesday, December 16th at 7PM at the LaMarca residence; 11 Orchard Lane, Highland Woods. We will have more details next month.

Also, please remember that as the holidays approach our club gets busy with our various service projects: Hats & Mittens, Angel Tree, and a holiday activity with the residents of Davis Manor. I hope you will all consider assisting with these projects. The hats and mittens and Angel Tree gifts help the less fortunate right here in our area. Please read the Services section of the newsletter for more information.

The November board meeting will be at the home of Beth LaMarca (11 Orchard Lane, Highland Woods) on Thursday, November 6th at 7:30. Please email with any questions or concerns you have for the board to discuss.

2nd VICE PRESIDENT Membership Kim Carpenter (474-9020 or kimwc@yahoo.com)

Thank you to those who have volunteered for the Mom Squad! Already our team is reaching out to new neighbors. I've included the list of volunteers below. But as you can see, we still need more volunteers. It is really a very small commitment, as new neighbors moving in, especially in today's market, is occasional.

If you're not familiar with the Mom Squad, it's a new program as part of our outreach to new neighbors. A Moms Squad volunteer stops in at the home of a new neighbor and drops off a letter of welcome from our club, our latest newsletter and perhaps (but not necessary) a plate of cookies or something little as a token of welcome. The visits can be as short as a conversation at the doorstep or just dropping the items off if the neighbor isn't home. If you're interested in being part of the "Moms Squad," please contact Kim Carpenter, new members coordinator, at 991-1530 or kimwc@yahoo.com.

SECRETARY Corinne Rodman (474-9501 or sasseboo@ptd.net)

Please remember to let me know if you know of someone in need of a card for a new birth, get well wishes, or death in the family, etc. I am currently updating the directory and would like to have them ready to send out this month. This year, we would like to distribute the directory electronically to members who have provided their email addresses (printed copies will also be available to members who request one). So, please remember to get your dues in as soon as possible in order to be included in the 2008-09 Directory.

WAYS & MEANS Elaine Bernstein (474-5984, elaine.bernstein@earthlink.net), Carole MacDonald (474-5777, mcdonac8@aol.com), and Elizabeth Montanino (574-6884, elizabethmontanino@yahoo.com)

Thank you so much, everyone! We are excited to announce that our Bon Ton Community Day project has raised over $150 so far, but we still have a chance to improve on that total.
The Welcome Club is still selling $5 coupon booklets for the Community Day event to be held on Saturday, November 15th.. The booklet includes a coupon for $10 off any purchase of $10 or more, and eight additional coupons each good for up to 20% off one item. (Some exclusions do apply.) These can be used at any Bon Ton store.
The coupons can be used for purchases on November 15th, or during the pre-sale which runs from Monday, November 10th through Friday, November 14th. (Note that pre-sale items must be picked up after November 15th.)
The Welcome Club will keep 100% of the proceeds from the coupon booklet sales. Please help us reach our goal of selling about 5 booklets per member by offering them to your friends and family, or by buying one yourself if you have not done so already. It will be a great way to get a head start on Holiday Shopping!
We will also asking for members help us sell coupons to the public from a booth at the Bon-Ton in the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre. We will be at the booth on Wednesday, November 12th from 10:00 am - 12 noon, and Friday, November 14th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Please let us know if you need any additional coupons by calling or emailing a Ways and Means Committee Member. We will be happy to ensure that you get it in time to use at the sale.
We greatly appreciate for your continued help and support! We look forward to a successful fundraising year as we continue to support the community organizations chosen by our membership.

SERVICES Tricia Russell (403-7785 or tricia.russell@wilkes.edu), Renee Sessions (788-6463 or reneekurt@hotmail.com), Mary Kate Finney (717-682-2389 or Therapy97@yahoo.com)

Hats and Mittens: As the weather starts to get colder, we turn our thoughts to those in our area that might not have the resources that we are so blessed to have. Once again, we will be collecting new hats and mittens to be distributed to children in need through St. Paul's Food Bank. Please bring your donations to the November meeting. They will be greatly appreciated!

Angel Tree: We will also be distributing the name tags for the "Angel Tree" program. If you wish, you may sponsor a local child who has been referred by St. Paul's Food Bank. Since we do not have a December meeting, please drop your wrapped donation (please include name tag) off at Mary Kate Finney's, 155 Kestrel Road (Forest Pointe) or Renee Sessions', 10 Autumn Fern Ct. (Sand Springs) by December 14. This is always a great program for the community and a perfect way to lend a hand to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Fire Department Appreciation Bakers: I would like to thank the following individuals that either baked a dessert or made an appetizer for one of the local fire departments (Rice, Wright and Mountain Top Hose Company #1) in October: Egda Young, Mary Thomas, Kim Carpenter, Valerie Way, and Lorraine Novinger. However, bakers are still needed for the upcoming year, so please consider using your baking talent and support our local fire companies. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Tricia.

NEWSLETTER Mary Thomas (868-7737, vandert5@pa.metrocast.net)

Please email newsletter articles for the November issue to me by Friday, November 21st, 2008 so that we can get the newsletter out in a timely manner. If your email changes during the year, please let me know.

On another note it is out goal this year to expand the website a bit more to invite new members and also inform newcomers to the area. If you attend special interest groups or events and have photos that you'd like to share, please feel free to email them to me directly. Eventually, we'd like a section on the website for each special interest group with a few photos and further explanation about the group. So, for example, the Dinner Club would have a section with some photos of some of the attendees and some of their themed meals, as well as dates and contact information. Thank you!
