PRESIDENT'S REPORT Shannon Williams (474-5570 richshan1@verizon.net)

I would like to take the opportunity to welcome any new members or prospective members. If you are thinking of joining, please feel free to attend one of our upcoming events (Playgroups, Mom & Tots activities, Book Club, General Meeting, etc). These are good opportunities to talk with our members to get a better idea of what the Welcome Club is about.

IMPORTANT!!! We are in the process of selecting our charities for this year. Thanks to those of you who cast your votes at the September General Meeting. If you were unable to attend the meeting, please take a minute to complete the Charity Voting Form . You can email the completed form to me or mail it to the club's PO Box. ALSO, if you haven't already done so please complete and return the Volunteer Form to me. This form is also attached the newsletter.

I would like to thank Kim Carpenter for another great job with the picnic. Fun was had by all!

The October board meeting will be at the home of Lael Swank (124 Kestrel Road, Forest Pointe) on Thursday, October 2nd at 7:30. Please email with any question or concerns you have for the board to discuss.

2nd VICE PRESIDENT Membership Kim Carpenter (474-9020 or kimwc@yahoo.com)

Thank you to all who participated in the Welcome Club barbeque! We had over 40 people attend the cookout at the Wright Township Park. The food was great and the kids especially had a great time, playing on the playground and participating in several games including a potato sack race and relay race. The dads were out in full force, manning the grill and leading the games! Each child received a glow in the dark bracelet and several families went home with a harvest mum door prize!

Now that we've all gotten reacquainted after the summer break, please be thinking about people from your neighborhood or circle of friends who would benefit from our club. Invite them to our next general meeting or any other Welcome Club event you think they might enjoy. At our next general meeting, each guest will receive a little gift and the member who brings the most guests will also receive a gift. _
In the meantime, feel free to let me know the name and address of anyone new to the area. Either personally or via mail, we'll get them a copy of the newsletter and a letter of welcome.

Speaking of which, I have had several volunteers for the "Mom Squad," a group of members who are willing to stop in at a new neighbor's home to personally deliver a newsletter and letter of welcome. But I still need more volunteers for the Mom Squad. If you would like to be a volunteer for your neighborhood, please let me know. We'd love to have you on our team!

First, I would like to thank Crystal Reptak and Elizabeth Montanino for providing desserts for the September meeting. Second, I am still looking for volunteers for the rest of the meetings including October. I also need volunteers for centerpieces. We need 5 centerpieces for the meeting. The centerpieces are raffled off at each meeting.

Remember, the centerpieces and the desserts are donations. The club cannot reimburse you for your expense. If you are interested in providing either item let me know.

WAYS & MEANS Elaine Bernstein (474-5984, elaine.bernstein@earthlink.net), Carole MacDonald (474-5777, mcdonac8@aol.com), and Elizabeth Montanino (574-6884, elizabethmontanino@yahoo.com)

Welcome to a new year from the Ways and Means Committee! We are excited to be coordinating the Welcome Club's general fundraising efforts this year. Our main fundraiser is our Spring Auction; however, we also traditionally do a smaller-scale fundraiser in the fall. This year, we have decided to try something new and participate in Bon Ton's Community Day event.

The Welcome Club will be selling $5 coupon booklets for the Community Day event to be held on Saturday, November 15th. The booklet includes a $10 off any purchase of $10 or more, and eight additional coupons each good for up to 20% off one item. (Some exclusions do apply.) These can be used at any Bon Ton store. The coupons can be used for purchases on November 15th, or during the pre-sale which runs from Monday, November 10th through Friday, November 14th. (Note that pre-sale items must be picked up after November 15th.)
The Welcome Club will keep 100% of the proceeds from the coupon booklet sales. Please help us reach our goal of selling about 5 booklets per member by offering them to your friends and family. It will be a great way to get a head start on Holiday Shopping!

We will also asking for members help us sell coupons to the public from a booth at the Bon-Ton in the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre. The dates are still to be announced.
We will have the coupon booklets available at the September and October Meetings. We will also make a list of volunteers interested in helping us with the booth.

Thanks in advance for your help and support! We look forward to a successful fundraising year as we continue to support the community organizations chosen by our membership.

We changed the date of the Adopt-A-Highway Fall Clean-Up due to the change in our first general meeting. It is now scheduled for Tuesday, September 30th. We will meet at 9:30 am in the parking lot at the Rise and Shine Restaurant (formerly Morris' Family Restaurant). Babysitting will be provided at the home of Mary Kate Finney: 155 Kestrel Road in Forrest Pointe development. We would be grateful for anyone who could volunteer for a couple of hours to clean a two-mile stretch of Route 309. The more people we get the faster it goes. Please sign up by emailing Renee Sessions, Mary Kate Finney, or Tricia Russell or you can sign up at the first general meeting. We hope to see you there.

Fire Department Appreciation Bakers: contact Tricia Russell (403-7785 or tricia.russell@wilkes.edu) We started baking for our local fire departments (Mountain Top Hose Company #1, Rice Township, and Wright Township) and I'm sure they appreciated it. I would like to thank the following September bakers: Mary Kate Finney, Carol McGowan, Tracey Pratt and Shannon Williams.
However, bakers are still needed for the upcoming year, so please consider using your baking talent and support our local fire companies. We are hoping for #2 volunteers to bake each month. The dates for the meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of the month for Rice Township and the 3rd Monday of the month for Mountain Top Hose Company #1 and Wright Township Fire Departments. The baked items (cookies, cake, brownies, etc.) should be dropped off anytime after 6 pm (Rice Township after 6:30 pm). The firemen will appreciate any food, whether you personally baked it or bought it from a store/bakery. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Tricia.
In addition, we will also be delivering an appetizer as a special extra treat for the October meetings to honor Fire Safety Month. We have volunteers for Mountain Top Hose Company and Wright Township, but still need a volunteer for Rice Township Fire Dept. Again, please let Tricia know if interested. Thanks!

SECRET SISTER Terry Cahill (tcahill@ptd.net, 474-0592)

Do you like being surprised? Do you like the thrill of a mystery? Then Secret Sister is for you! Last year we had so much fun trying to figure out who our Secret Sister was. This year we hope to recapture that. There will be gifts exchanged at three of the general meetings and at the final reveal. Remember, the most fun is SURPRISING your Secret Sister. How creative can you be? Whether it's dropping off a surprise during the Holidays or her Birthday, sending a note for no reason other than saying I'm thinking of you. Everyone loves being made to feel "special"!

Please bring a gift valued around $15 in a white gift bag to the following general meetings: November, January, and March. You will then bring a gift to the big reveal at a date to be determined in May. If you cannot attend the meeting, I will be your responsibility to make sure your Secret Sister receives her gift on that same day. We wouldn't want anyone to feel left out.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out the form and return it to Terry Cahill. You can e-mail me at TCahill@ptd.net or mail/drop it off at 57 Catalpa Ave, Woodland Estates, Mountain Top. Please have all forms to me by October 31st. We want to have plenty of time for everyone to get their gift in time for the November meeting!
