PRESIDENT'S REPORT Shannon Williams (474-5570 richshan1@verizon.net)
Welcome back! I hope that everyone had an enjoyable summer! I am very excited to take on the role as president this year. I look forward to working with such great board members, special interest coordinators and members. September will be a busy month with our first General Meeting, Newcomer's Family Picnic, Adopt-A-Highway clean up and lots of special interest activities.

I am very open to suggestions for new club activities as well as suggestions for better ways of doing things. Please do not hesitate to contact me either by phone or email. Also, if you would like to become more involved in Welcome Club activities please contact me or one of the other board members. We will continue to support the Mountain Top community through our service projects and annual auction. I encourage you to participate in these events, as well as, any activities we have within our club.

Attached is the Volunteer Sign-Up Form for this year. Please fill it out and mail it, along with your annual membership dues of $20 to PO Box 243. You are also welcome to bring it to our September General Meeting. The form for selecting this year's charities will be in next month's newsletter. We are still working on finalizing the possible charities.

As many of you know, our Relay for Life team was very successful in 2008. Lisa Davidson and Christine Strage will be leading our team again in 2009. For the upcoming year, Relay for Life will be treated as a committee/special interest group within the club. If you have interest in being involved in this group, please complete the Relay for Life section on the attached Volunteer Sign-Up Form.

The next board meeting will be September 4 at 7:30PM at the home of Elizabeth Montanino. Please email me with any topics you would like the board to discuss.

I hope to see you all at the September General Meeting!

2nd VICE PRESIDENT Membership Kim Carpenter (474-9020 or kimwc@yahoo.com)

The Mountain Top Welcome Club Annual Family Barbeque
Saturday, September 13th, starting at 4:00 pm
Wright Township Park pavilion.

All members, perspective members and new families to the area are welcome,
so please invite your friends and especially the new neighbors in your neighborhood.
Bring your lawn chair and a blanket for your children to sit on to watch a movie at dusk.
Dress casually, as there will be lots of games for both children and adults!
Members are asked to contribute to the meal by bringing an item
based on the first letter of their last name:
A thru L for a dessert with M thru Z providing a side dish.
The Club will provide the meats, juice and soda.

Please respond by September 6th to Kim at 991-1530 or kimwc@yahoo.com.

The Welcome Club would like to start a new program called the "Moms Squad" as part of our outreach to new neighbors. We're looking for a couple of volunteers from each neighborhood who would be able to visit the new neighbors in their neighborhood and take them a few items: a letter of welcome from our club, our latest newsletter (both of which would be provided) and perhaps (but not necessary) a plate of cookies or something little as a token of welcome. The visits could be as short as a conversation at their doorstep. If you're interested in being part of the "Moms Squad," please contact Kim Carpenter, new members coordinator, at 991-1530 or kimwc@yahoo.com.

SERVICES Tricia Russell (403-7785 or tricia.russell@wilkes.edu), Renee Sessions (788-6463 or reneekurt@hotmail.com), Mary Kate Finney (717-682-2389 or Therapy97@yahoo.com)
Welcome back! We are starting the year off with the Adopt-A-Highway Fall Clean-Up. It is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23rd. We will meet at 9:30 am in the parking lot at the Rise and Shine Restaurant (formerly Morris' Family Restaurant). Babysitting will be provided at the home of Mary Kate Finney: 155 Kestrel Road in Forrest Pointe development. We would be grateful for anyone who could volunteer for a couple of hours to clean a two-mile stretch of Route 309. The more people we get the faster it goes. Please sign up by emailing Tricia Russell, Renee Sessions, or Mary Kate Finney or you can sign up at the first general meeting. We hope to see you there.

Also, last year was the first year that the Mountain Top Welcome Club showed its appreciation of the local fire departments (Mountain Top Hose Company #1, Rice Township, and Wright Township) by baking every month for their department meetings. It was well received and they loved it, so thanks to Mary Thomas and Beth LaMarca for the idea! I recently spoke with each department and they can't wait for this service again.

Thanks to those members that have already volunteered to bake goods for the monthly meetings of these fire companies. However, we still have open spots for the upcoming year, so please consider using your baking talent and support our local fire companies. I'm hoping for 2 volunteers to bake each month. The dates for the meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of the month for Rice Township and the 3rd Monday of the month for Mountain Top Hose Company #1 and Wright Township Fire Departments. The baked items (cookies, cake, brownies, etc.) should be dropped off anytime after 6 pm (Rice Township after 6:30 pm). I'm sure the firemen will appreciate any food, whether you personally baked it or bought it from a store/bakery. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Tricia.

I would also like to find just 1 volunteer per each fire department to bring an appetizer as a special extra treat for the October meetings to honor Fire Safety Month. Again, please let Tricia know if interested. Thanks!

MESSAGES FROM MEMBERS
Dear Welcome Club Members,

On behalf of the Board and staff of the Kirby Library, I thank you for the Welcome Club's extremely generous donation to the library this year.

When I first moved to Mountain Top and knew absolutely no one, the Welcome Club and the library were my two saving graces. Both organizations provided me with many opportunities to meet people and offered loads of activities for my kids. To this day, I am grateful for their presence in Mountain Top and proud to be a member of both. And I am willing to bet that many of you feel the same way.

Also, I wanted to let you know that the Kirby Library will hold its own silent auction on Saturday, September 20th, 6 p.m., at the Glen Summit Casino. Besides the auction, the evening will offer hors d'oeuvres, dinner, live music and dancing. The Westmoreland Club will cater the event. It's BYOB, but the library will provide nonalcoholic drinks and mixers. The cost per person is $60.

If you would like to attend, please call the library at 474-9313 to make a reservation. I hope you can make it!

Again, a heartfelt thanks for the Welcome Club's donation to the library.

Deirdre Murphy
Kirby Library Board President and
Welcome Club member
